I have little to no recollection of the many assemblies I attended in elementary school, and it would be naive of me to believe today’s visit from the San Francisco Boys Chorus at P. Elementary will be remembered by its students any better than those lost to my own memory. Then again, it’s not every day that kids your own age come and sing you the same stuff they sang for the President.

At the end of it I heard a second grader next to me gasp, and looked over to see him burst into wild applause. When I see that kid tomorrow, he may not remember exactly what it was that he heard today, but I would hazard a guess that he will remember exactly how it made him feel. I will also hazard a guess that the memory of that feeling will change the way he sings out his own musical ideas tomorrow as we dive into composing music for the first time. If I am wrong, I will let you know.
